Removals Ireland Health and Safety Policy

Removals Ireland is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for our employees, customers, contractors, and members of the public who may be affected by our removal and relocation services. This Health and Safety Policy sets out our approach to managing risks associated with domestic and commercial moves, transport, loading and unloading, packing, storage, and related activities across our service areas.

Health and safety are integral to our business operations and decision-making. We seek to prevent accidents, injuries, and ill health by identifying hazards, assessing risks, and implementing effective controls in all areas of our work.

Our Health and Safety Commitments

Removals Ireland commits to the following principles in all removal and moving services:

Comply with all applicable health and safety legislation, regulations, and recognised industry best practices relevant to removal and transport activities. Provide and maintain safe vehicles, equipment, and systems of work for all moves, including house moves, office relocations, and storage handling. Ensure that employees are competent to carry out their duties through appropriate training, instruction, supervision, and ongoing development. Consult with employees on health and safety matters and encourage active participation in improving safety performance. Take reasonable steps to protect customers, visitors, and the public from risks associated with our operations at homes, offices, buildings, and storage locations. Continuously review and improve our health and safety performance.

Responsibilities for Health and Safety

Ultimate responsibility for health and safety rests with the company management of Removals Ireland. Management will ensure that adequate resources are made available to implement and maintain this policy. Supervisors and team leaders are responsible for ensuring that safe working practices are followed on every removal job and that staff understand and implement site-specific safety requirements.

Every employee has a duty to take reasonable care for their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions or omissions. Employees must follow training and instructions provided, use equipment correctly, and report any hazards, defects, near misses, or incidents without delay.

Risk Assessment and Safe Systems of Work

Removals Ireland undertakes regular risk assessments relating to moving, lifting, loading and unloading, packing, transport, access routes, and storage operations. These risk assessments consider the particular characteristics of each property or site, including stairs, lifts, restricted access, parking areas, and surrounding public spaces.

Based on risk assessments, we develop and apply safe systems of work. These may include specific procedures for handling heavy or awkward items, use of lifting equipment, securing loads in vehicles, protecting property and fixtures, and coordinating safely with customers and building management. Risk assessments and procedures are reviewed periodically and after any significant incident or change in operations.

Manual Handling and Use of Equipment

Manual handling is a core element of removal services, and Removals Ireland places strong emphasis on safe lifting and carrying techniques. All staff engaged in physical handling receive training in correct posture, team lifting, use of trolleys and dollies, and recognition of personal limits to minimise the risk of musculoskeletal injuries.

Appropriate handling aids, protective equipment, and tools are provided where required, such as sack trucks, furniture dollies, moving straps, blankets, and ramps. Employees must inspect equipment before use and must not use any item that appears damaged or defective. Any concerns about equipment condition must be reported immediately so that the item can be taken out of service and assessed.

Vehicle, Driving, and Road Safety

Our vehicles are maintained in a safe and roadworthy condition through regular inspections, servicing, and checks. Loads are secured to prevent movement during transit, with particular care taken when transporting fragile, heavy, or high-value items.

Drivers receive training and guidance on safe driving, journey planning, defensive driving techniques, and compliance with road traffic requirements. Appropriate breaks and rest periods are encouraged to reduce fatigue. Drivers must never operate vehicles under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or any substance that could impair their ability to drive safely.

Customer, Public, and Property Protection

Removals Ireland recognises its responsibility to protect customers, neighbours, visitors, and members of the public from risks arising from our activities. Our teams work to keep access routes as clear as practicable, use hazard awareness where moving large items through shared or public areas, and take care when parking vehicles to maintain safe visibility and access.

Protective coverings can be used as appropriate to help prevent damage to floors, walls, bannisters, and doorways during moves. Care is taken when handling customer belongings to reduce the risk of breakage, and staff are instructed to report any incidents immediately to their supervisor so that appropriate actions can be taken.

Training, Information, and Supervision

Removals Ireland provides induction and ongoing health and safety training for all relevant employees. Topics include manual handling, safe use of equipment, vehicle safety, working on customer premises, hazard awareness, and incident reporting procedures.

Supervisors monitor working practices on site to ensure that safety procedures are followed. Additional guidance and refresher training are provided when new equipment is introduced, when work methods change, or when a need for extra training is identified following an incident or near miss.

Incident Reporting and Emergency Procedures

All accidents, injuries, near misses, and dangerous occurrences must be reported promptly to management so that they can be recorded, investigated, and used to improve our systems. We encourage a culture of open reporting, where staff can highlight safety concerns without fear of blame.

Emergency arrangements are in place to respond to incidents such as injuries, fires at customer locations or storage areas, or road traffic accidents. Employees receive guidance on emergency communication, evacuation routes at premises where they are working, and coordination with emergency services where necessary.

Monitoring, Review, and Continuous Improvement

Removals Ireland regularly monitors health and safety performance through inspections, audits, incident records, and staff feedback. The findings from these activities are used to update risk assessments, procedures, and training materials to ensure they remain effective and relevant to the areas we serve.

This Health and Safety Policy is reviewed periodically and whenever there are significant changes in legislation, operations, or organisational structure. Updated versions are communicated to employees and made available to customers and interested parties upon request. By working together and following this policy, Removals Ireland aims to deliver professional removal services while protecting the health, safety, and wellbeing of everyone involved.
